The two-day event of the Parenteral Drug Association Italy Chapter also featured interventions from AIFA, Roche, and Fisiopharma

On 28 and 29 September 2023, Antares Vision Group and PDA Italy Chapter jointly organized “Inspection of Parenteral Products: State of the Art, Annex 1 Compliance and New Trends“, an event focused on trends in visual inspection.

PDA Italy Chapter is part of the Parenteral Drug Association, founded in the United States in 1946 and now present in several countries, with more than 9,000 members globally. By working with the association, Antares Vision Group is confirming its contribution to ensure the Quality of Pharmaceutical products and, consequently, the well-being of end users. PDA Italy Chapter is today the most qualified partner regarding science and technology applied to parenteral products. It has also been active in Italy and in the Swiss canton of Ticino for 23 years, with the aim of creating a forum for the exchange of technical information among professionals working in the pharmaceutical field.

The event, held at the Group’s headquarters in Travagliato and Parma and part of a rich calendar of events and conferences around Italy, focused on the impact of new regulations – thanks to an in-depth discussion with a representative of AIFA, the Italian Medicines Agency – automated systems and best practices confirmed by real cases. Particular attention was paid to difficult-to-inspect (DIP) parenteral products, such as lyophilized products, the role of container closure integrity testing, and improvements empowered by the use of AI and Deep Learning.

In this respect, Fisiopharma, a pharmaceutical company dedicated to the development, production, and commercialization of injectable drugs that manufactures both proprietary products and products for customers, shared a case study on the management of the visual inspection of non-transparent products and suspensions.

Roche, a leading provider of in-vitro diagnostics and a global supplier of transformative innovative solutions across major disease areas, illustrated the results obtained by implementing an automatic inspection machine for sterile powder vials.

The event also featured speeches by members of the PDA Italy Chapter and Antares Vision Group. These experts highlighted how technology is a valuable support in meeting regulatory and market challenges and how such events are effective in exchanging and sharing views and ideas.

The agenda also included a guided tour of the Antares Vision Group plant dedicated to inspection machines, with the opportunity to visit the test laboratory and production area and saw a live demo of inspection machines.
